Marlborough has plenty of great places to play.
This Play Week which runs from today - Monday 19 October - to Sunday 25 October, Council’s Play Advocate Lesley McIntosh is keen to shine a spotlight on the ways people can play.
“Play helps us spend quality time together – it strengthens connection, belonging and relationships through fun and shared experiences.
“It’s all about how we can connect in simple ways and with our favourite places and the environment.
“There is a saying that ‘whanau play where whanau are’ and this Play Week I’d love to see our community take the opportunity to celebrate play in their everyday,” Lesley said.
As part of the national week inspired by Sport New Zealand, Council’s Gardens team have created Duck, Discover, Play! at Pollard Park in Blenheim.
Follow the duck footsteps, enjoy playful challenges along the way and discover the Nest of Playful Rocks. Add a rock, take a rock, or hide a rock and keep the play going wherever your whānau goes next.
The Blenheim and Picton libraries always offer great play activities, including art and craft, Lego Club, and Fiero coding for kids young and old.
“Cats are also on the move at Te Kahu o Waipuna with four cheeky cat toys hiding out in the Marlborough Library. See if you can find them,” Lesley said.
“Whether you are at home, at the park, at school or in the community this Play Week, look for any simple opportunities to play to help your whānau connect and thrive.”
