Feedback sought on proposed removal of gum trees

Residents are being asked to have their say on the future two gum trees at Morrington Terrace Reserve in Witherlea, Blenheim.

Council has received a request from a neighbouring property owner seeking the removal of one of the trees, identified as Tree A, due to concerns about Tree A’s proximity to their home and the amount of leaf litter and small branches falling on to the property.

A second gum tree, Tree B, is also proposed to be removed by Council as this has grown in the shadow of Tree A and is leaning away from it.

Council is also aware of other gum trees in this reserve that may have some effect on other nearby properties and cause concerns with leaf litter, branches falling and root infiltration. If the trees are removed, Council will plant more suitable tree species and enhance existing gardens within the reserve.

Under Council policy, any proposal to remove a tree or trees taller than six metres from reserve land must be publicly notified and residents in the area surveyed.
