Public notice of amendment to Responsible Camping Control Bylaw 2022

At the Council meeting on 7 August a recommendation to amend the bylaw to enable the management of Lake Elterwater freedom camping site was carried.

The Self-contained Motor Vehicles Legislation Act 2023 required Council’s responsible camping bylaws to have the consent of the chief executive of NZTA for the bylaw to apply to NZTA land. The amendments are:

Amended the first line of the bylaw to include reference to Section 10A as follows:

Pursuant to sections 10A and 11 of the Freedom Camping Act 2011, the Marlborough District Council makes the following Bylaw.

Inserted a new clause 5.4 as follows:

The Lake Elterwater Responsible Restricted Camping Area is NZTA land. This area of land is declared to be local authority area for the purposes of this bylaw in accordance with Section 10A of the Freedom Camping Act 2011.
