Unwanted Goods project
JBL Environmental, on behalf of Marlborough District Council, operates the Unwanted Goods Project — a free to use service that collects, repurposes, and redistributes unwanted household items to connect good‑quality items with people who need them.
The project supports the community, particularly those without access to transport, by keeping usable items in circulation for as long as possible. Whether someone is urgently needing furniture, appliances, or other essential household items, or simply looking for a bargain, the project offers a practical solution.
This free service is especially valuable for people who don’t have a truck or trailer to drop off or pick up items. The project also works closely with organisations such as Women’s Refuge, Work and Income, and Christchurch City Mission, and has even helped fully furnish households for families starting over. First‑time flatters can also get in touch for items they may need.
How does it work?
- Gather up the items you want to give.
- Register online through the links above. Only households registered via the link can take part. It may take up to seven days for our staff to respond to your request.
- You will be emailed a form to fill out.
- Someone will call you to arrange a pick-up or delivery time. If you need help to move items let us know when we call you.
- Move the items to a place where they can be easily collected by the staff if possible.
Please only give items you would be happy to receive yourself.
Minor damage to household items can be repaired.
Do not put out dangerous goods such as faulty electrical equipment.
We definitely do not want rubbish.
The collection staff will not take away items that are broken, soiled, or beyond repair. Project staff will have the final say on the day.
It is your responsibility to deal with any items that do not get collected.
Everyone in Blenheim can use the service but priority will be given to households that do not have access to transport or who have an immediate need for household goods.
