Marlborough District Council’s Floodwatch website has been upgraded to a new platform.
Floodwatch is an easy-to-use tool that helps you judge if there is a flood risk in your area. The map displays current rainfall, river flow and river level data from monitoring sites around Marlborough.
“The new platform has the same familiar graphs and layout but it will perform better - particularly on mobile devices - and has some enhanced features,” said Stacey Young, Council Chief Information Officer.

“This upgrade will ensure that Floodwatch remains robust, accurate and ready to deliver critical flood information when people need it most,” Stacey Young said.
“People should save the new website address as a favourite link on their web browser and delete the old one.”
Floodwatch graphs show both current data and flooding thresholds, with descriptions of what the thresholds mean - for example at what level a particular road might be closed.
This means you can compare current river levels and flows with the thresholds to get a clear idea of how a weather event may affect you.
The Wairau River Barnetts Bank site now displays river level instead of flow, giving a clearer picture of the flood risk on the Lower Wairau in real time.
The graphs are designed with a fixed scale that works best during high flows. For regular environmental data outside flood events, go to the environmental graphs page on Council’s website at

The upgrade is aligned to New Zealand best practice for flood monitoring, ensuring consistency and enabling improved decision-making for Council and emergency management staff during severe weather events.
