A new fund dedicated to arts and heritage is open for applications from Monday 24 August.
From June this year, Council’s Community Grants has been divided into two funding streams. Applications are now separated into Community Grants and Arts and Heritage Partnership Grants to improve the process.
A new, specific Arts, Culture and Heritage Sub-Committee, will reflect expertise in these areas within Council, as well as representation from the wider community. This sub-committee will now consider grant applications in the categories of ‘Art and Culture’ and ‘Heritage’ under Arts and Heritage Partnership Grants.
Applications under the categories of ‘Community Welfare and Social Services’ and ‘Sport and Recreation’ will continue to be considered through Council’s Community Grants by the Grants Sub-Committee.
Arts, Culture and Heritage Manager Nicole Neilson said the Arts and Heritage Partnership Grants recognised the unique contribution that this sector made to Marlborough with a specific funding process.
The fund has a total pool of $50,000 available to support not-for-profit organisations, iwi and community groups delivering arts and heritage initiatives benefitting Marlborough. Grants will generally range from $500 to $5,000, with larger requests considered for projects demonstrating exceptional community impact.
“If you're considering applying, we encourage you to start planning early and get in touch if you'd like to discuss your project or check your eligibility,” Mrs Neilson said.
Eligible projects include equipment purchases, volunteer expenses, public workshops, conservation planning, repairs and maintenance of heritage and arts facilities, consultancy, and seed funding for new initiatives.
Applications close at 8am on Monday 21 September.
