Previous Planning Documents

On 9 July 2025, the proposed Marlborough Environment Plan became operative in part. With the exception of a few discrete provisions, the Marlborough Regional Policy Statement, Marlborough Sounds Resource Management Plan and the Wairau/Awatere Resource Management Plan became inoperative. Prior to the establishment of the Marlborough District Council, a range of local authorities managed the use, development and protection of natural and physical resources. They exercised this management via the following planning documents. These documents may have relevance to establishing existing use rights in terms of district planning activities.

The Land Disturbance Control Plan and the Wairau River Floodway Management Plan were prepared by Marlborough District Council under the Resource Management Act 1991. These were replaced by the Marlborough Sounds Resource Management Plan and the Wairau/Awatere Resource Management Plan.
