Regional Public Transport Plan 2024-34
Marlborough District Council (MDC) is responsible for providing public transport services in our region, and the Total Mobility service which provides a subsidised service for travel impaired residents and those who are unable to access public transport or other transport alternatives.
The Marlborough District Council’s Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) is a strategic document that sets out the objectives and approach for Public Transport for the next 10 years. It outlines details of the Public Transport network and proposed development plans.
These services are funded by fares from passengers, New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) and MDC ratepayers.
The Land Transport Management Act 2003 which was amended in 2013 (LTMA) states that the purpose of a Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) is to provide:
- A means for encouraging Council and public transport operators to work together in developing public transport services and infrastructure
- An instrument in engaging with the public in the region on the design and operation of the public transport network
- An instrument to support a sustainable public transport service
- A statement of:
- The public transport services that are integral to the public transport network
- The policies and procedures that apply to those services
- The information and infrastructure that support those services
Regional Public Transport Plan 2024-34
While the Marlborough Regional Public Transport Plan can be read in isolation, it has intentionally been included with the Regional Land Transport Plan (RLTP). For the purpose of the Marlborough RPTP, the RLTP should be considered an attachment to this document.
